PhD Training and Events
Doctoral research has been at the core of CERGIC's scientific project since its creation. In addition to the training provided through the doctoral school, CERGIC offers a wide range of activities specifically designed to support and strengthen the academic development of PhD students. These initiatives aim to foster a vibrant intellectual community, encourage regular scientific exchange, and prepare doctoral candidates for the academic job market.

The main activities include:

-
Graduate Meetings: Held every two weeks in the presence of faculty members, these informal gatherings allow PhD students to present ongoing work, share a new research idea, discuss recent findings, or comment on an academic article they have read. The objective is to develop students' ability to communicate their research clearly, engage with the work of others, and build a habit of constructive academic dialogue within the doctoral cohort.
-
PhD Workshop: At the end of each academic year, all doctoral students present their work according to their level of advancement. This workshop serves both as a progress review and as a space for critical feedback from the broader research community.
-
Paper Review Sessions: Faculty members provide in-depth feedback on students' research papers. Special attention is given to the Job Market Paper, which is systematically reviewed by an expert in the relevant field, with feedback modeled on a formal referee report.
-
Internal Seminars: These sessions offer doctoral students the opportunity to present their research in greater depth to faculty and peers, encouraging more detailed discussion and methodological reflection.
-
Research Stays Abroad: Students are encouraged to spend at least one semester at a foreign institution during their PhD. These research stays are key to fostering international exposure, expanding professional networks, and enhancing the quality and visibility of their work.
-
Job Market Preparation: CERGIC provides targeted support for students entering the academic job market, including mock interviews, presentation training, and strategic advice on dossier preparation.

Through this combination of structured activities and ongoing mentorship, CERGIC creates a stimulating environment where PhD students can grow as independent researchers and integrate into the broader academic community.
